Hi everyone, I've been granted a plot at my allotment site nearby (community garden) and perhaps that's why I have not been online for ages.... my issue is I can't figure out what zoning should be on a piece of land without a dwelling? the plot is sketched out below to the best I can using keyboard keys, it's 3.5 meters wide and about 12 meters long, there are many features I just can't draw here such as trellises, pond, polytunnel, raised beds, keyhole bed (to be added), herb spiral etc. I enter walking along the bottom from the right where I then turn right to walk along the dotted boundary line on the left towards the shed. I'm just assuming that once all of my projects are complete and the plot is mostly designed and suitable to what I need, that I would then be spending most of my time around the shed making the area immediately in front and around my zone 1 however, right now it feels like zone 1 can include the dotted boundary line as that's where I arrive and anything along that path gets attention from me on arrival, during the time there and before going. (the flat boundary line at the bottom is all a dedicated wildflower and beneficial insect bed which only needs occasional watering) < 3.5m > ______________ I [shed] I ^ I I ^ I I I ^ I 12 m I I I I ^ I I I v I_____________ ^ ^ turn here ... < < < arrive from here < < Because it is a communal plot, I am enslaved so some rules so there will be issues if I tried a mini zone 5. my question is, where would you place your zone/s? - the empty area along the 12m invisible line is a small walking space between my plot and another, I don't walk on it much and Solar South is basically where the dotted line is (I'm in UK) I will be placing fruit trees towards the Northern side thanks
for a community plot i would use the entrances as the zone 0/1 boundary and probably not be at all thinking about zone 5 as the space is meant primarily for veggie production. also without knowing your area/laws and the terms of the plot grant it would be hard to say much about what can and can't be done as well as the shoulds... still, if you have no space at home it is good to be able to find someplace to garden if you have the time/energy and it isn't too far away (within a short walking distance would be my requirement).
