is it still Craig? Just wondering if the forum settings can be tweaked so that one doesn't lose one's posts when one takes too long to push the submit button.

At the moment a new page opens with a message saying to go back and refresh the page and try again, but anything written in the text box is lost.

I'm on another forum where you get a timed out kind of message but the draft isn't lost, so I'm assuming there is a setting that can be changed.

Hi Pebble. I happened to drop by. :)

The timeout was set to 3600 seconds (60 minutes). I've just doubled that, to 2 hours. Please note that this issue should not happen if you click the 'remember me' checkbox when logging in.

    This might also prove useful:

Glad you did drop by Craig :)

I'm always logged in, and I think I've still lost posts. Will trial it and see...

Ok, I did a test. I'm always logged in, I left a reply box open overnight with a post in it, modified it this morning, and tried to post it. I got this message: "Your submission could not be processed because the token has expired. Please push the back button and reload the previous window."

When I used the back button, my post was still there! so that is an improvement. Maybe that is browser dependent, some people seem to be saying they lose their post.

That test was using the Go Advanced reply box. The next one was using the Quick Reply, and the post was definitely lost using the back button. And I'm still permanently logged in.

btw Craig, where it says "There are currently 327 users online. 14 members and 313 guests", how many are real people (as opposed to bots)? Just curious how many people are reading here. It seems to have gone up alot in the last while (year?).

    Hi Pebble

Two hours is pretty long for time to write a post, I think :) The default/original setting for the forum was 15 minutes. If you're going to write a really long and/or well-considered post, I'd write it in a text editor so you can save as you go.

    Did you read this also?:

Re the numbers of users online - it should be correct, except do remember that now the timeout is two hours, so if someone logs in, then spends only five minutes here and then walks away from the computer without logging out, then the system will regard them as still on the forum until the two hours have elapsed.

Hi Craig, I quite often leave tabs with half written posts open for longer than two hours. I go away and do other things and come back. For me, I know that I have to cut and paste and use a new form, but I see other people in conversations talking about how they lost a long detailed post because they didn't know.

I did read the link you gave but assumed it didn't apply as I am already logged in. I will try logging in while logged in and see what happens.

    Thanks for the numbers info.

There are extensions for browsers that do it on your side, as opposed to the forum's side.

No worries. I've usually had something like that installed and I had totally forgotten it since the last rebuild. I've been lucky and not lost too many but I've reinstalled now so thank you for bringing my attention to it.

I want to ask if it’s OK to put an add in the forum. I are looking to appoint an Agent in all Australian states for my Agricultural Microbes.
    Thanks,
    Cheers
