I disagree, radical islam's goal is the establishment of the global caliphate. The infidels (that is you, me, all who are not sunni muslim) shall convert, or die. The iraqi Christians, the Kurds, the Shia, and Yazedi are under penalty of death and these groups are not affiliated to the US, UK or Israel. Now, back to harvesting some delicious autumn berries.
Agreed, I know a lot of people of Islamic faith and they are very peaceful people who are as much against the so called "radical" Islamist movement as any other faith or non-theist. We need to stop referring to those "radicals" as Islamist's. They are the Barbaric State of Israel and the Levant, Islam shouldn't get a mention. IMO
Every single so called 'race' & / or religion on this planet has a radical movement like that of the radical Islam extremists. Personally I am going to meditate on the philosopher Bruce Lee's thought on this planet....."Under the sky, under the heavens, there is but 1 family."
I think the point that Diggman may have been making is that radical islam has seen a resurgence following dishonest, ill-conceived and self-interested US / UK / Western / Israeli foreign policies, not least being the prospect of stealing all of that oil.
As long as mankind has existed there have been those who have gone to the extreme, it matters not what time period, portion of mother earth, race, religion or other identifier you use, the extremist has always sought to force his ideals and ideas on all others. The thing that has to happen, but has not ever happened to date is the acknowledgement that all humankind is related, we are all of the same species, we are all brothers and sisters. There have always been those who refuse to come to grips with this one simple fact. To lay blame on he US/ UK or other countries policies is to ignore the fact that those claiming to be oppressed, have not voiced their discontent except by the use of violence against others. Where do they sit and have conversations with the other colors of the world? When did they take their grievances to the World Court? The United Nations? Or any other method of voicing their discontent other than simply committing acts of murder. There will only be true change when all mankind can put aside the petty wants of themselves and hold council like true adults with cognition and awareness, with all four colors of the world present and heard. All people have rights, when one puts their self rights as more important than any other self's rights, that is when all self rights have been stepped on.
Chomsky's view "The aggressors destroyed "Iraqi national identity and replaced it with sectarian and ethnic identities," beginning immediately when the U.S. imposed a Governing Council based on sectarian identity, a novelty for Iraq. By now, Shiites and Sunnis are the bitterest enemies, thanks to the sledgehammer wielded by Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney (respectively the former U.S. Secretary of Defense and vice president during the George W. Bush administration) and others like them who understand nothing beyond violence and terror and have helped to create conflicts that are now tearing the region to shreds." https://www.alternet.org/world/noam...untless-lives-and-future-generations?page=0,0
Create a problem Try and fix the problem Create another problem Try and fix that problem Create another problem rinse and repeat Great news for rich white men who own share in construction, mining and war equipment.
Where to start? Those "claiming to be oppressed" generally are oppressed, and quite often oppressed beyond any measure that we could imagine to be tolerable. Do you need examples? "have not voiced their discontent..." If you listen beyond the constant drumming of corporate media you will hear their voices. "...except by the use of violence against others." Many resistance movements and their leaders are non-violent, and despite that many are killed by their violent oppressors. With a few exceptions, these people are not household names. Other oppressed people take up arms out of desperation. If you were born into Gaza or Fallujah perhaps you would also fight back? "Where do they sit and have conversations with the other colors of the world?" A good question, which doors are open if you are Palestinian and your oppressors are also the so-called peace brokers? Or if you are guilty of being born in Afghanistan and the US/UK/Australian special forces burst through your door? "When did they take their grievances to the World Court?" Here is one example: Ariel Sharon should have been tried for Crimes Against Humanity, notably overseeing the slaughter of defenceless refugees in Lebanon. Knowing that he was in a vulnerable position, Sharon engineered the second intifada to create a climate of fear that would see him elected as the prime minister of Israel. Conveniently, heads of state cannot be brought before the International Court of Justice unless the UN Security Council votes for it, and Sharon's friends in the US have a veto! So Sharon was never tried. We may be waiting a while to see Bush, Blair, Howard and Putin in The Hague. "The United Nations?" A great idea with great flaws. Did UN resolutions save Iraq and Afghanistan from oblivion? Tibet, West Papua, Palestine, Rwanda, Western Sahara, East Timor, Ukraine??? If the current mess in the midde east is not a direct result of US extremism and warmongering since well before the 1990 Gulf War, then what is the cause? Are militarily advanced countries any less barbaric because their methods of destroying nations and executing civilians are quicker and more effective? It is possible to condemn ISIL, condemn and blame the US and other aggressors, and still have empathy and take action for the vast majority of people who are tragically caught in a crisis they had no part in making.
Correction re. my example of Ariel Sharon avoiding prosecution: The International Court of Justice (in Belgium) ruled that it did not have juristiction to try former heads of state of another country, and the International Criminal Court needs approval of the UN Security Council to try a head of state. The point being that the oppressed of Palestine, Iraq, Syria or elsewhere are unlikely to place their trust in the international justice sytem to resolve disputes or bring the architects of destruction to trial.
