Exotica nursery on california caries yacon, I have some growing but not much, write to me end of season . See If there is enough
Hi Bill I dont want to sell them I am happy to pass some on to another permie enthusiast ......... I originally got mine from a board member Joel who posts as Earthbound but isnt here much now days as he is too busy with his Aquponics board I will let you know when we dig them up they are nearly ready ( and of course we are counting our yacons before they "hatch"   ) they dont grow particulary well here in our poor sandy soil but the tubers shoud still be ok we could either meet somewhere when we come to Perth ( better option as they get quite expensive to post many ) or else I could post a few regards frosty
Thanks Frosty; in Perth at the moment and am happy to travel to lancelin, I am very keen to give them a try so would appreciate it if you do have some to spare when you do get to dig them. I've never grown them but from what I've read they are very good. thanks again Bigfred
Hi bigfred I will post here when we dig them up ........ could be a few weeks or so should be enough for both of you frosty
Thanks Frosty, very much appreciated. No hurry as I understand they don't need to be planted until early spring (?) Quite happy to pop up to Lancelin; maybe could bring some fro Bill and hook up with him in Perth to save a trip. What do you reckon Bill? Cheers Bigfred
Sounds good Fred, it took a while to answer as I lost the thread. Alternatively I can mail Fred a prepaid postpack and you can get them from me.
Seems like it's not going to be a problem Bill; let's sort out the transport arrangements when (& if) Frosty has some to give away cheers Bigfred
yacon Hi Frosty, I used to grow Yacon, but here on the Gold Coast the Bush turkeys liked it more than me and ate it all in 1 night after I had planted it. I used to grow it where I lived in Northern NSW and moved here for work. I loved the taste and texture of it, such a brilliant root crop. Any chance of me buying some off you? I would gladly pay post costs as well. I only need a small amount as it spreads quite readily if looked after( I'll keep it Bush turkey proof this time!) Wishing you Smiley and Sustainable existence Now and in the future. Cheers and Regards, John
Hi John we didnt get a very good crop of growing tubers and at this stage they are all promised ......... sorry I think you being in NSW you can probably buy some from Green Harvest....... we over here can only get tubers from WA locals due to Quarantine regs frosty
Thanks Frosty, I'll try them. Luv your Chief Seattle quote.......have you read the whole letter he wrote that it was a part of??! Warm Regards, John
I just planted mine. Hope its not to early but the tubers were starting to soften and shoot. Fingers crossed.
no I havent John is it by any chance online ? Bill we have planted ours too and last year we have some grow from "volunteers" we missed digging up regards frosty
good news so by you location have you moved to Point Henry ? is that Point Henry near Bremer bay ? frosty
Hi Frosty, Yes the Point Henry is the one near Bremer Bay but we have planted the Yacon at our place in Craigie (Perth) 'coz we can't get anyone to look after things whilst we are not in residence on Point Henry but we can in Craigie (kids and neighbours). Are you interested in some Jicama seeds? Cheers
