Re: Wanted - Goji berry plant

I recon you stick it in the ground. I think they just water willy-nilly in commercial big-boy nurseries like [email protected]$ et al and that's why they die off. My ones are going well and from what it says on the label they are pretty hard to kill. Just stick it in the ground not too much or too little of this and that and sunshine should do the trick! Obviously they can't be too hard to grow or they wouldnt be the new 'wonder' berry!

Re: Wanted - Goji berry plant

I put it in a new pot with new PM still looks sick and unhappy- my soil is crap, a lot of work to do yet.
No reply from the email I sent to the nursery on the 14 Mar
You think they would be interested that Bunnings were chucking out their plants.
(PS I am told -PM- that Bunnings is a"bad" guy something to do with rainforest timber. Anyone got the gen on that? Hard to keep up with the good and bad guys these days)

do the dried Goji berries have viable seeds in them?

I have just planted two of them after reading about them on this site. Had never heard of them before. Now I'm getting really adventurous. Will see how they go.

Re: Wanted - Goji berry plant

I just had my first home grown Goji Berries! Fantastic. This is after planting seeds in Oct 08.

I picked some early 'cos I was so excited. The smaller ones were a little bitter, but the larger ones were quite sweet. :D

No fruit fly problems atm. I have competition with the ants though, they are all over the Gojis. They've only eaten one berry so far though.

Re: Wanted - Goji berry plant

what happened was my cat got into my seedbed a few weeks ago to make a whiz and was digging for a while. I had planted calendula plants and Goji berries. Now some small plants have come up and i do not know whether they are calendula or goji Can anyone help me distinguish? They may all be Goji, or calendula.

I got some berries from the local chinese medicine man $10a 600g bag.
(they are good for heart problems).put them in four years ago and still haven't got a berry off them. I am in melbourne hills. Also, plants grown in different parts of the world all tend to carry different medicinal qualities and quality. wish you luck.

Re: Wanted - Goji berry plant

I have grown goji from cuttings. I bought them from a Harris Farm fruit shop, in the asian veges section. I think people eat the leaves as well. I just stuck the cutting in water on the kitchen bench and it sprouted roots. Worth a try I guess. Not sure the name of the item in the shop though. But they have thorns, so I think they are easy to spot, in with the other Asian veges. It might be seasonal. This is going back a few years.

I agree, can't see any calendula there. Some nettle and chickweed though, which are good plants to have :)
