Looking for volunteers for a reconversion project using Permaculture on a farm in Villacastin, Spain, providing shelter, food and something extremely valuable to learn. The farm is 500 hectares and has 120 Limousine cows.
The first thing we will establish are swales, dams, ponds, the vegetable gardens so we can start eating good clean fresh food. Then the forests, windbreakers, seeding of new grasses on the pastures will come after. The establishment of smaller pastures will then be set in place, utilising the established fencing and combining new elements to restrict the flow of the animals. There are 42 water troughs currently giving water to the animals throughout the year.
There are wonderful things to learn, doing them. From establishing waters systems, levelling and marking of swales, marking and establishment of dams and ponds, planification and establishment of forests, the placement and need for windbreakers though out, as well as creating natural borders throughout the borders of the property, creating wildlife passages, learning by implementing efficient pasture systems.
