Hi, I saw this great article in the Age by Rachel Pitts about people in inner Melbourne bringing their home grown produce to one location so everyone can swap. No money changes hands. You just bring what you grow and take some of what everyone else has produced. Good idea and an inspiring read. I wonder if this also happens in other cities and towns? https://www.theage.com.au/news/entertainment/epicure/green-currencies/2008/11/24/1227491444678.html
Re: Vegetable swap in Melbourne There is another vegetable and fruit swap that occurs at CERES, Lee St, Brunswick every Saturday morning. It is called Urban Orchard and operates from a table outside the market area. The idea is that you bring your surplus produce be it a bunch of carrots or a bag of apples and take away stuff that you may not grow. It is a great way to supplement, give, spread produce around and be part of the community. Produce must be organic ie no chemicals involved in growing. May see you there?
Re: Vegetable swap in Melbourne Yarra Urban Harvest Grow It, Share It, Eat It! You’d be surprised just how much food is grown right here in the city! This means fresh, often organic, zero foodmiles, seasonal and you don’t get much more local! A network of people growing food in the City of Yarra has formed including backyard vegie growers, community gardeners and school gardeners. The idea of the network is to support people growing food across the municipality with workshops, garden tours, advice and social events as well as to provide a strong voice to advocate for more food growing opportunities within the City of Yarra. https://yarraneighbourhoodorchard.webs.com/ Where: Smith Reserve (also known as Corporation Park), Alexandra Pde, Fitzroy (next to Fitzroy Pool) See map When: First Saturday of the month, every month all year round What to Bring: BYO bags/basket, excess homegrown edibles https://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?....793896,144.981621&spn=0.012683,0.019312&z=16
