University Students are finding it hard to gain Industry Based Learning placements in rural areas. The skills are getting harder to maintain and the working population is aging and many are about to retire. How are rural communities going to compete for limited numbers of professionals ? What incentives can be put in place now to help students gain essential work experience in rural settings ? Should Council's collectively try and employ a student on placement? What do rural communities need to do to attract, train and retain professionals? Permaculturalists generally have kids that are aware of environmental, ethical and incoming economic issues which lead into these fields. Unless these professions are upheld these services many people take for granted are dumbed down and societies start to go backwards.
