soil microbes

    have you any information on a soil conditioer made by packing cow horns with some matter.

    No, but here on the north shore of Maui I have been experimenting in a sort of tongue in cheek way by packing chicken shit into coconut hulls and burying them in the middle of my compost heaps.
    Actually, I think the biodynamic preparation B500 is made from cow manure that stuffed into a cow horn and buried for a certain period of time at a certain phase of the moon. The resulting compost is supposed to be very biologically active and can be used as a spray or a compost activator etc.

    Richard's right Jowett. It's called 500 and is an important part of biodynamics. For a starting link you can look at

    You can also find articles about its use if you do a search on the net of 'biodynamics and 500'. By all accounts the stuff works, even if the reason might not be fully understood.
