    I have some of these
Nice beans used a lot in Asian stir fries.
We eat them steamed too , plant is very prolific and gives beans all the year in the semi tropics. They like warm conditions best'

If you can swap something ok , otherwise I'll send you some anyway.

    PS
(keep it too yourselves , I am after some comfery root) :D

    g'day batz,

yep they are about the most under-used and underated bean i can imagine. we have some seed stock sitting on the kitchen table right now, thought we had lost them after the dry summer last year oh ours all grow as volunteers.

they produce so many beans it is great they just keep on keeping on hey, ok they aren't quiet as big on the bean flavour as the other temporamental types but a few plants give more than this bean lover can eat, and they don't get any bug attacks well not bad ones an apart from the hares that is.

    len  :D :)

Just for interest sake, are they the brown or black seed variety? I used to always grow the snake bean with brown seed, but tried the black seeded ones this summer and I'm loving them. Have some browns self-sown, but the blacks are yummier.

    g'day bella,

do the black seed ones look different on the plant when they are green before they mature and dry?

i eat my snake beans like a green bean, so at that stage there is no brown or black colour in the actual bean seed, that comes later. mostly my seeds end up brown but at times i have had black seeds appear i have only ever grown the one sort and gotten 2 colour seeds.

    Len

My black seed snake beans are smaller than my brown seeded ones. they are also a darker green and the dry pods are darker. They bean seeds are ever-so-slightly bigger than the brown variety.

I'm having trouble harvesting due to very wet weather. Hope to have a good collection when the sun shines for a bit...

    ok bella,

same as mine there is a size difference but i can get that from the brown seeds as well thought it may depend on water supply at the time of forming. but as i only ever had the brown seed variety and mine all grow as volunteers i have no idea where the black seeds came from or how they got there. i only grow snake beans as they produce the best for my conditions.

    Ok, Len.

Have you tried Purple King Climbing Beans? These do well up here, especially through the winter/dry season, but keep going longer than any other bean I've tried. They're pretty and tasty too!

    g'day bella,

no haven't tried them tried blue lake i think them and the normal dwarfs just don't produce anything like the snake beans do or even over the same length of time that the snakes do. also no keen on ahving to have something available for climbers to climb on snakes do very well on their own with just the righ amount of water.

Yes the purple kings are very persistent.
I found they have a mad flush just after they look ready to pull.
infact the best flush is that last one.

they are more prolific than them skinny snake beans in numbers and in overall weight for age.
but snake beans are fun like the purle kings so grow both :)
