This may be the wrong place to ask this question but does anyone know of anywhere in Australia (northern NSW or SE Qld area preferred) where I can purchase a scythe - European or American I am not fussy.
I have some long grass that needs attending to.

We find in the Subtropics that the scythesare hard to use in the stiff grasses and weeds of our region. They seem to work best in the temperate zones where the seasonal herbal flush is so soft and green. As far as we know they are no longer manufactured or sold here in Australia (we are global handtool collecters) so secondhand is your only option, $60 to a $100 we bought them for in resnoble condition. In 1999 we were working in Macedonia where there are still very good quality scythes produced and the price would be quite cheap. From our work a large Permaculture NGO is opertating there, and we have many contacts and they may be able to post one to you. We have found over 20 years of cutting mulch in the SUBTROPICS that the Japanese RICE KNIFE and KAMA are the best cutting tools (everyone who uses them loves them). Unfortunately they are hard to get in Australia also, we get ours brought in as presents and also posted to us by our many Japanese Permaculture conections. You may find them in a Asia market or China town type area. We are very interested in good handtools and have made quite a collection over the years, we ask our sponsered international student to bring traditional handtools with them to our courses. Unfortunately many forms of handtools have become extinct
