Hi I have a tiny garden on the qld/nsw border and there about 7 scrub turkeys that like to visit. Does anyone in this region know of any deterrents aside from me living in a cage? Apparently my neighbour feeds them but they dig up everything within sight...

    any input much appreciated..

I feel your pain. At Milang we have crazy little birds (don't know what they are) that dig up pot plants. I lose several before I hit on covering all the soil in the pot with several layers of newspaper. It works for my little birds but knowing the size of bush turkeys I don't know that it would work on them, but if no one else comes up with a better idea you could give it a try

Thanks for your reply! I'm going to trial making a shadecloth tent and see if that keeps them off.. I'll keep you posted :)

Not much will deter these guys. I heard someone saying raised beds seemed to help. Others have used logs and sticks in some areas to deter their scratching, this works for me as well. Besides that I have to close off the gardens from them completely, or they destroy it all.

Depending on how large the garden is you could put wire screening around the plants.

Sorry should have made this clearer. You could put wire screening on the ground surrounding the plants. This will deter birds from digging.
