Donkey, Peter, Erica, Mud and I attempt to address skepticism over the claims that a rocket mass heater can heat a home with one tenth the wood.

Hi Bill! Still wondering when I will see you at my door.

I did see that. It is one of those things where I want to say "don't use metal in the burn chamber or the riser!" but by the time I was aware of what he was doing, he was well on his way.

It is possible to succeed with metal in there - but only for tiny systems where the temp stays below 1400 degrees F. And at that low of a temp, there is concern that the system is not getting hot enough to burn all the smoke.

The real test is when the system gets to be two years old. So after two years of heavy use, did the metal spall or melt out?
