G'day, Following is a link to a farm design development process that we have developed based on a project we recently developed for a commercial primary producer in the Clare Valley region of South Australia: https://www.heenandoherty.com/farm-design-process Time taken to complete this design was around 12 hours (@AUD$132/hour) Thanks and all the best,
Great process Darren! One thing I found out is that by using Google SketchUp, I could generate contour lines for a given block from Google Earth's GIS data using this process: Even further, you can alter the terrain to a new design by this tutorial: https://www.arch.virginia.edu/computing/training/online/faculty/stiles/pages/sketchup%20new/sketchup%207_sandbox%20tools.html I've been learning to put in the features of my place via SketchUp but was stymied by the "flat land" restriction until I found these processes. Enjoy!
Ohhhh Kayyyy. Terribly sorry, but ... Just came back to review the tutorials I posted earlier and discovered .... those aren't the tutorials I though they were! (Although they are relevant). Sooooo. Here's the video on how to generate contour lines in Sketchup using Google Earth terrain: And here's the little tutorial on how to copy and paste an array of planes with a spacing to your desires (to generate the contour lines). https://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=94867 And finally, here's my place with Google Earth terrain turned on and the resultant contour lines at 2' vertical intervals (it's 21 acres for reference): This is actually a 3D model in Sketchup and you can move around it to visualize your property's slopes. (edit: I notice that I must be logged in to the forums to see the pic of our place.)
