    i agree frosty,

trusting the government with tax cuts is like letting a kid loose in a candy store  they give a little with one hand and behind your back take heaps back with the other. and yes i am a pensioner and the gst is nothing more than an extra cost and i doubt that the superficial tax cuts given to low wage earners is worth much right now.

no pricing and taxing is not the answer nor is drinking sewage water. as has been suggested why not put extra mains in to pipe that water for clothes washing, toilets and gardens and keep treated drinking water from dams & weirs for drinking and cooking. if our water problems are this bad then we need to look at infrastructure.

here is a scenerio that is most likely available in lots of regional centre around australia bet everyone know a place:

rockhampton in not the wettest part of qld they too won't allow or wouldn't allow tanks which when i lived there i thought for this dry city how stupid is that? well they pump treated water for the racecourse that i know of BUT their weir is almost in the middle of town, the council spent huge amounts of money trying to fix low water pressure to some areas that all failed, why didn't they just put another smaller main and pump untreated weir water for gardens and lawns????? :?: :?

how many other towns could do that? then this water could be charged at a special rate for those wishing to waste it washing cars and watering useless lawns? well it's an idea and if the community doesn't start coming up with ideas the administrators will and as usual they won't work but they will hurt the poor the most.

and what about all the storm water that runs down drains into the rivers and bays???

len thinking out loud but no more extra charges  please and for the low wage earners no more pretend tax cuts  to supposedly compensate.
    :-x

When was the last time you saw common sense being used by government? Most (if not all) politicians are bought and paid for by big business. And they're not going to change until the people who put them into office INSIST that they do right.

And how likely is THAT? Here in the U.S., the people have such short memories that it's a crime! Why do I suspect that Oz has the same problem???

If water tanks were the norm, tests for perchlorate and other "debris" would be, too.

'Tis a pity that common sense isn't more common... esp within government.

    too true sue,

politics is politics no matter where you are, they are there simply to line their own pockets. and they get voted in by gullable voters on promises of things not on their past history of failures and broken promises. and the public rely too much on the administrators that is why we get into such a mess.

and as for common snense there isn't much of that among the general public so you can't expect it out of greedy politicians.

    len :(
