What happened to them and what do you eat on an oak tree? I do suspect, unfortunately, that the fruit trees would require more maintenance than the councils are willing to afford to give them. I suspect its their reason for not doing it.
My oppinion is that councils dont plant fruit/nut trees, is, No fruit or vege growers are gunna let people grow the stuff wild and never buy off them... another reason would be all the maintanece and pest, diseases etc will/could run rampant,if no one bothered to eat it off the trees.... another reason is thed not like tonnes of leaves that would require tidying up every autumn.,and people would whinge and bitch about the mess 52 weeks a year.... I bet you someone from road safty would find away to blame trees for certain accidents...... Back years ago you got a lotta big trees put up,but after, 100 odd years, even old trees have a habit of dying or needing removal, Sadly they dying quicker then they being replaced....IF!! thats why permies wanna grow trees out the front garden, its the closest theyll get to having one out the front on the road verge... if you drive round perths suburbs these days in the new suburbs, its all "better homes and gardens",.everyones dusting there gardens lolol...they wont wont trees dumping on there manicured lawns... The rot has set in .years ago...we can only try and ask,or bugger em plant without telling anyone, just like Bill Mollison suggested back in the 70s n 80s.. Even the Humble but vital Roosters have been banned....
It just occurred to me that the fruit trees attract bats here. That could be one issue. And then there's a huge uproar by the community. We've got one of those uproars going on in nearby port douglas. I expect i will have to net all my fruit trees when the time comes. And that is going to be one helluva job with so many trees to cover.
