Update The pinto is still flourishing next door,it seems to have out competed most other grasses There are very few stands of rat tail left maybe the more fertile soil??? The other species left is a type of mint smelling weed has purple flowers.(not goat weed) Downside is it grows naturally about 100 mm high so its a bit snakey and the wallabies used to come and graze on the block and they dont seem to like it and have rarely been there.
@Grasshopper is it catnip? anyways, no surprise on not liking to graze, once a mint gets going that tends to discourage herbivores.
Not catnip softer leaves and taller more purple spikes ( I need to go and have a closer look but a bit worried stomping through tall thick pinto in snake season) Its fairly sparse the pinto is more than 99%of the cover and it seem the wallabies dont seem to eat that.so far
