Over on photoblog, you can create groups where its easy to share your images and create a little community that keeps regular tabs on what each other is doing. I have been part of a community there before which was formed in another forum. I found it fun and you can learn a lot from people all over the world in ways that words alone are more difficult to do. (by group i don't mean the usual group thing that you find on forums). I mean we would be a group by accepting "friends" of each other and checking on fairly regularly on each other. My previous group started off as a 365 days photoblog. People shared what they did with their days, their interests, what their town, house etc looked like. I found that because the people already had an established connection through other mutual interests, the group was really strong. I think we could do something similar. I am not proposing an alternative to PRI but a linked connection. Check out my photoblog if you haven't seen it already or haven't seen a photoblog. YOu can make hte pictures large, comment on each others pictures. Add little notes on the pictures, and write reams of notes as well. You can have it private though i don't know if its possible to share outside the site if you do that. the moderators are helpful in their forum. https://www.photoblog.com/shangrila Lastly if the mods want to move my introduction thread into this forum, i wouldn't mind a bit.
Thanks Sun Burn! That photoblog site is a great way to tell the story of your Permaculture activities and I especially like the way you've posted commentary. A great suggestion and option for all of our forum members. Your place looks very lush and green ... can't wait to see how your mandala turns out. Have you looked into our Mandala group? On the upper left of the forum screen is a link titled "Community". Select "Groups" from the pull-down menu and discover what our Mandala crowd has been up to!
Thanks for the invitation 9 but I can't warm to groups. I don't really understand how they work ( i mean i know how to use them but i don't know how they work to keep people interested.) and I don't understand why they the threads need be separated form the usual forum. Surely the entire content of the mandala group would be good going on one thread wouldn't it? I"ve been on a number of forums. And i've never noticed groups working well - perhaps for different reasons but those that i have joined, just lose my interest through lack of activity to uninteresting content. In fact, this might be the place where they are more active judging by the number of people pariticpating in the mandala group. But then there's no easy facility like the what's new link for the main forum which makes it easy to see the forum goings on. Its not the content of groups that I don't like, its the formatting or programming.
I thought the Groups existed so kimbo had a wide space to play in that wasn't so much in the public eye ;-) I still haven't figured out how to get notified of new posts to the Groups (no RSS, and the New Posts link doesn't bring them up) so I just visit when I remember to go look. Your photoblog looks great!
Thanks for the complement.pebble. lol about kimbo. that point you make about notifications, i noticed (and was annoyed) by that on another forum. Its partly why they are unsuccessful in my opinion. Anyway, i joined the group. Or at least requested to join.
Bump. Waiting, waiting for my broadband connection to get sorted out so I can have an easier time of using things like Photoblog.
Having recently lost 1000's of photos when my hard drive when pffft, the only record I have of the progress in my garden is now my photoblog. Another good reason to keep it! Which reminds me I must take some more photos and post on my progress.....
OH that's so sad eco. I am sorry to hear about that. Anoher good reason to also buy yourself a second back up harddrive. And i must do it too!! I live in a little bit of fear that my little harddrive might go bam one day. I do actually have a second one but i can't make the dam thing work. I must get that resolved asap! I tried it once alread though. I must try it again. These things really bug me. Sometimes i just think i should forget about photography and trying to keep anything. It would be the buddhist way... see my diary.
