Hi, Just like to add my website; Permaculture Advocacy Services Any good links on City Farms would be good. I was active in the Darwin City Farm, started by some Western Australian Permies, only then to find out that the Perth City farm was being demolished for a Car Park. I am curious to hear what happened to that ??? I am in Canberra now, still sussing everything out.
City Farm is still there. I believe they have recently taken on a long lease, so are there for a while. Some kind of building restoration is going on too. They had a big festival thingy there a few weeks back.
Yo, East Perth City Farm is alive and cranking. I was doing some stuff there last year, and still go down to check things out. They just had a really successful "tomato festival" that ran over two days. They had stalls, workshops, bands, djs, food, garden tours, etc - it was blissful!! The gardens are looking great, and lots of creative artwork is integrating itself into the garden. They have received a 40 year lease from the state government, and big plans are on the cards. They are working with Community Arts Network WA (CAN WA) to set up an active youth space in the city, and also running tree planting events and indigenous cultural activities. If anyone is in WA, go check it out, its an amazing example of how a contaminated site can be turned into a permaculture paradise in just 10 years. Get off the train at Claisebrook train station and you can't miss it.
