Is it possible to envision a permaculture future where employing another person via wage labour is prohibited, but all other forms of trade and ownership fully free- i.e. you could produce and trade as many goods and own as much land as you could afford, but not hire wage labour?

Hmm... Don't see how you could do away with wage labour and retain the ownership of property. The two seem inextricably linked to me. Ownership seems to be an incurable pandemic. :?

    Peter,

    It may well be possible.

We would have to shake off the current method of measuring worth in terms of currency. It is probably how societies ran until a variety of currencies were found. Gold probably became the first internationally accepted measure of worth and ran concurrently with spices, shells, frankinsence and even tulips for a while. Eventually gold became the leading measure of value.

For the past hundred years or so we are running on implied value, ergo, we believe that he who issues the notes holds the gold. I do believe when the realisation hits that this is fallacious that all hell will break loose.

"This article supports a number of points made over the last several months:
    1. Inflation is obvious everywhere despite official figures
    2. Financial professionals are clueless
    3. Inflation (expansion of the money supply) is a hidden form of tax
    4. We are entering the era of the welfare state (higher taxes and more
handouts), ironically shepherded in by 'conservative' governments
    5. Gold and silver will rise against ALL currencies"

I am not advocating our current approach as being sensible, sadly, it's just how it is.
