Hi, my name is Fiona and I live with a wonderful man called Paul my husband. I've just completed the Permaculture design certificate course with Geoff Lawton at Zaytuna Farm. All I can say is Wow! so much information and ideas to put into action now on our 97 acre cool climate farm. I think it's going to be quite a journey. We have done some basic start up work on our farm but still plenty more to do. We have 8 children, 6 here in Australia and 2 in England. The farm has become a great holiday location for us all and in particular our boys like to help out with the building and digging that occurs. We host Wwoof, Help X and Workaway volunteers and love hearing their feedback about how their confidence has grown, they have learnt new skills, made new friendships and had the opportunity to enjoy nature in all its glory. There's always more opportunities available for anyone interested, so feel free to contact us. We have a café business as well and this has become quite a hive of activity over the years. We build the gardens like we have at home and they are loaded with food. It's nice being able to bring food to our customers straight from our café gardens. I'm keen to start workshops about permaculture. We have an area here that allows for teaching in fact we have a fermenting course running soon. We already have school groups coming through our permaculture café (Bissys Café) gardens and its rewarding to know that there is such an interested in our younger generation. I believe there are programs already designed by others but I am yet to find them. Were looking forward to sharing our stories, learning from others, and gaining insight into how we can make things happen which will encourage the growth of our permaculture educational farm. Were also interested in hearing from people who are keen to share educational workshops that would be helpful to our customers.
Hi Fiona and welcome, Congratulations on your PDC! Looking forward to hearing about how you transform your farm and introduce Permaculture into your cafe business.
Hi Bill, thanks for the welcome. Our café gardens have been based on Bill Mollison principles for permaculture over the past 3 years. We read many a book and viewed the youtubes. Going to Geoff's course was to see if we had the right understanding and I think were pretty close to the mark. Now were busy working out how to make this all happen on a larger scale at our farm. Were hoping to build a PRI educational centre, just looking to see where we can find the information on the global site that tells us what we would need to do to see if we can fit in with the requirements. If you can point us in the right direction we would be very happy. Thanks
Hey Fiona, I think you'll find some basic information on this page: https://permaculturenews.org/what-is-the-permaculture-research-institute/ if you scroll down to the "Mission" portion. This site search has links to the Master Plan Site processes: https://permaculturenews.org/?s=master+plan Hope this helps.
