    Hi All
Residents of my local community (Murchison - NE Vic) are wanting to band together and organise a public meeting on climate change and as a follow on for people interested in taking up the challenge to make a difference in our community we would like to research and provide 4-5 options of various companies that provide these bulk (and discounted) deals. We are also looking to our local council for support. I believe other small towns have done likewise but have not as yet been able to source reliable companies to get quotes from. We are aiming at a deal that will initially give a discount for 50 installations. Does anyone have any info or know who to contact to get this ball rolling? I'd be grateful for any info.....

    Hi Ironbark,

We're trying to get a similar thing up and running here in Cowra NSW. So far appx 40 households have indicated interest.

We were initially attracted by the 'solar neighbourhood' offer, but I think this will require a lot more research.

I think this is the company that started it; https://www.beyondbuildingenergy.com/

Here's another discussion of the solar neighbourhood in Mullumbimby; https://www.ozshop.net/ozforum/viewtopic ... &sk=t&sd=a

    G'day Ironbark :)

    Welcome to the Forum.

Our group (BSG) are working hard at securing a bulk purchase deal, and our friends down the road (MASG) are doing the same, as have our other mates over in the west (BREAZE).

To find out more, just contact the various individuals listed in the sub-groups.

Hi - we have had a wonderful recent success in lismore. A couple of local guys got together and pulled the community together, organised a tender and we now have a bulk buying group of 70+ households. It was always stressed that we would use local suppliers if possible. The outcome is that we will be buying a 1kw system for under $2000 (after rebates) through two local suppliers (as there was so much interest in the program).
Send me a PM if you would like the contact number of the main organisers, who I am sure would be happy to talk to genuinely interested parties.

Also, there is a rumour that the funds for solar panel rebates will all be allocated by November. What happens then? I say get in quick!

    Hi Susan
Do you have any more news on the buying group for renewable energy? for example how has having two different suppliers worked out for the group? With a large group are members of the buying group also interested in buying rainwater tanks, solar hot water, insulation etc?

I have heard from residents in Nimbin that Rainbow Power has negotiated on a bulk discount for 50 residents through the Nimbin Neighborhood Centre. Rainbow Power also sells good quality equipment in renewable energy.
    Cheers

Another interesting buying group that has already completed 150 installations and provide a lot of detail on their web site on how to organise a community based buying group is Local Power https://www.localpower.net.au/
