Can anyone spare a few seeds of the above? I think they would be good tough citrus rootstock and I like the fruit as well. Anyway, I have a few seeds I could swap or I could just pay postage so look forward to hearing from someone.
Hi, Mine have just started to flower so wouldn't be able to give them to your for a while. Also, they are grafted, would you still want that? Sorry.
Thanks for the offer Cosmic. I don't know enough about it to be able to say yes or no. I will research it a bit and see if I can find out.
Finger Lime Seed Hi Cosmic, Hope this will simplify things. Your Lime seed should produce the same Lime that it came from, (Mum) regardless of the rootstock. (that's the beauty of grafting) Interesting that your's is grafted and T Rose wants to use IT (the top stock) for rootstock? That will mean that he/she will be getting what is 'at the top' of your tree----and that's got nothing to do with the rootstock it's growing on. It basically, depends on the soil conditions as to what rootstock does the best, and then on various other factors, for the variety needed or wanted at the TOP. Limes are not my speciality unless you count eating them, and maybe cooking with them lol. I can't answer questions regarding cross pollinating of limes, or any citrus, but I hope that helps a bit. I'd love some seeds too please. Just let me know what I can send in return, I have huge collection of seeds, natives, trees, shrubs, vege and some flower. I tend to have unique or unusual things. Just ask, I'm more than happy to exchange what ever I have. Cheers Linda
black pepper Hi Haywire Have just been reading about tasmanian black pepper, you know anything about them or have some?? Can trade or pay Cheers Cathy
barely run - I won some the other week and it's really worth having to cook with. A very nice mild peppery taste. I don't have a plant but if you don't have any luck on this forum, there's a heap of taswegian gardeners on https://www.ausgarden.com.au - - they should be able to help or at least point you in the right direction.
Well, I seem to be out of luck with fruiting this year. The flowers have come on and all vanished. By they way, I have seen the tree for sale at bunnings!
I have read that the finger limes are NOT true to seed, even the grafted ones??? would be interested to know if anyone else knows anything about this....maybe it is just propaganda from the licensees???
propoganda? probably. most of the "named" "varieties" occur naturally as sports or as distinct colour differences in the wild. The named varieties are all budded or grafted and come with a contract where you agree not to propogate the plant. So genetically, there's a good chance you'll get something close to the parent plant. Some of the nurseries were thinking of adding a monsanto clause - you must return all seeds, but that's next to impossible with finger limes (or any australian native citrus) - there's usually nearly as many seeds are there are the little balls of juice
finger lime seeds Hi, if any one wants seeds for finger limes I have over seventy different varieties of them and still finding more. I have been collecting them for many years and yes they are not true to type but in fact if you grow a few from seed you never know what you will get which gives me great joy when they fruit for the first time(about 5 years), however grafting from a known fruiting tree you should get the same fruit if not better. So if you want to swap I am happy to do so! I am looking for russell river and Mt white lime seeds or cuttings or trees from NSW as citrus are not allowed into NSW from QLD so if any body wants to swap let me know. Jamie
