Hi all, I'll try again and see if my post stays on here! I am having people around for tea in a couple weeks and i'm of the understanding that the couple LOVE 'mushy peas'. What the heck is it? Is it just mashed peas? Or is something special added to the peas? From someone who would rather weed the garden, than cook i'm asking for help! Cheers Lyn
yes - your post will stay. you guys jumped on too quickly yesterday before i had fully restored the database, so the posts you made in that 6 hour period were lost as i rolled out the latest data.
Mushy Peas are made from dried blue peas. These are very cheaply available from the supermarket. Simmer them gently for at least 2 hours and keep stirred. They do need to be flavoured somewhat with things like salt, tabasco, bacon bones, stock cubes, herbs or other. They also freeze well. Pie and Mushy Peas is a bit of an icon in South Australia. mike
 Not wrong there about mushy peas being an icon in SA Floot. Even after a few years there I was still astounded by the fact that at every event of any note there was a vendor selling mushy peas in gravy or pie and mushy peas and they were always flat out keeping up with demand!
Well here is some sort of ''official story'' on SA and mushy peas. https://theoldfoodie.blogspot.com/2005/12/any-peas-with-that.html Anyone else here notice that P.M.U. Peas [reconstituted dried peas - mushy peas' were dropped as a supermarket item about 5 years ago?? mike
