Please find the attached brief Job Description: Primary Responsibilities Fruit and Vegetable Gardens - Purchasing and managing stocks of seeds, tools, organic fertilizers and pesticides and ensuring that they arrive on the island as and when needed. - Manage the team of gardeners. - Cultivation of organic crops for restaurants to reduce food miles (mainly perishable items salad, herbs, mushrooms). Constant collaboration with executive chef to ensure that crops grown are in line with kitchen requirements. Try and diversify crops and increase production. - Crop rotation and pest control routine management - Conception, research and design of medicinal herb area for spa and herbal teas - Composting /vermi-composting facilities for kitchen waste, office paper and garden waste supervision, monitoring, aeration. - Supervise mushroom cultivation at Soneva Fushi, Soneva Gili and evaluate the possibility of selling excess production. Experiment with new varieties - Reishi, Portobello Almond. Waste Management - Develop an Implementation Plan for the new waste management strategy. - Program to increase and reuse and recycle on the island. - Grey water recycling options, irrigation (reed beds, water harvesting) and water economy measures - Mulching and chipping of garden waste for use on garden beds in compost and for mushroom, cultivation Zero Carbon - Research and implementation of the proposed bio-diesel project - Identify locations for renewable energy systems in conjunction with XCO2 as part of our Zero Carbon Emissions 2010 objectives. Monitor collected data, suggest new ideas and create a training module to encourage hosts to pay attention to water and energy consumption. Liaise with Juergen Seidel and XCO2 on these issues. Raising Awareness, SERF and Award Applications - Educate local communities about permaculture, composting, recycling, waste management, and the environment via workshops or guided tours of the gardens - evaluate the possibility of making another garden or mini farm managed by local people on a neighboring island. Implement the project if it proves feasible -Manage, supervise and train a team of local gardeners (normally 4-5 people), design the layout, organize the seeds, tools and materials necessary and monitor the project continuously. - Do guided tours of the gardens with hotel guests and evening presentations on permaculture themes as and when required. - Help organize benchmarking and certification for Green Globe 21 - Work on environmental award applications or affiliations as and when required. - Propose suitable social responsibility projects to the management Laamu - Coordinate with Six Senses project team to design vegetable, herb and fruit gardens for Evason Hideaway Laamu. Coordinate with project manager to supervise the construction of the garden project and recruitment of gardeners. - To spend a week or so marking out paths and villas at Laamu and to make sure no larger trees were cut down during construction.
