Hey all, I'm looking for options on what to plant as a form of hedge/screening for both wind protection purposes and blocking out as much sound as possible.

Ideally something that can be multi purposeful!?

Would love to know your thoughts!

I'm located in Melbourne, south east.

    Thank you

Saw an orange tree hedge the other day. Looked really nice. Good solid dark green all the way to the ground. Would look stunning when covered in oranges plus taste good. You could do it with any citrus that grows as a big bush

Not sure how citrus cope with wind but they'd certainly look fantastic if they grew ok. Avocado don't bear well in wind and die back (the tangled growth not the whole tree so far..) when they get tangled in other plants and wind rubs them. It's actually very interesting from an ecological perspective but that's possibly an entire article...

    My suggestions are:

    Feijoa
    Guava
    Coprosma

Coprosma in NZ have 53 species. The berries are good chook browse, the plants are good mulch. The trees/shrubs are also wind resistant and fire resistant.

This link has a key for coprosma :D
