hello everyone. a while go some one posted how to kill chichen for eatting. ive search and cant find the post. we have got four big boys for the block. any help with be great. does any one put them in to a small cage and feed them something special for a week before they meet the frezzer. hoping to enjoy some yummy home grown chichen very soon...
Feed them corn but don't shut them up for long together or they will get silly and peck each other. Killing them is easy, especially bearing in mind I have never roasted a home grown chook so you don't have to worry about making it nice for the look of it on the table. Whip off head, bleed well and then get the gucky bits out of the middle. Home grown really lends itself to casseroles like coq au vin or stews/ pies. They flavour of home grown is intense and long slow cooking does it well.
Hiya Lillypilly How are you all going down there? Sounds like your big boys are allmost ready to kill...If you cramp em up or seperate them prior to Dressing youll only stress them out further... stressed meat can be tough meat so they say...Not too mention the poor chooks feelings... Firstly Id either Singurly or collectivly remove them from flock...Kill away from flock especially sight, sound distance....Kill humanly with a Chopper or sharp knife..Drain blood,Remove internal organs,Remove head, feet and all feathers...trim for presentation...then chill for a couplea days ,then cook slowly in cassaroll dish maybe.. Collect all offal and feathers etc and bury in hole, add to compost or worm farm. Burp from eating your own chook Tezza
