Anyone growing this (or similar) in temperate areas? I'm looking at it for roofing (thatch) material, so other varieties will be considered. Most thatch roofs (or should that be "rooves"?) in temperate areas need replacing every few years, so something frost tolerant, and maturing within say, 2 - 3 years would probably fit the bill.
    Thanks
    Don

its all over SE QLD. no need grow it
farmers would be happy if you harvested it!

aka Blady grass/ poor mans oats

ive seen thatch in south africa
    they were using aquatic reeds

so why do you want thatch?
Galvanised roofing last a very long time, id argue long enough to justify its use
even in indo i saw them use Gal and put the thatch over the top for appearances

if you want natural then maybe terracotta. its recyclable

thatching looks like hard and specialised work! no wonder its dying out
