I would like to know where/if it is appropriate to share with fellow permaculturists my passion for hemp? Hemp Building is particularly of interest to me right now - and we are running a workshop in Canberra in February 2011 that I would love to share with permaculturists. It is about how to grow your own home, literally, from a field of legal industrial hemp. I don't want to get in trouble for advertising  so how best to share this with those that are interested? Below are my websites - you will find a great video on hemp building presentation I have made recently. Hi hemp I'm currently working on designing my own house. I haven't looked at hemp. How suitable would it be for the wet tropics do you think?
Building with hemp is indeed proven around the world - have a look at all the pictures at https://www.thehempbuilder.com where hemp building is explained. You can build a house of hemp from hemp that you grow using this method.
We are discussing C. Sativa and not C. Indica, correct. Big fan of the former, not so much the later. Big passion for the fibres! C. Sativa has so many uses that it is almost a one stop shop/grow. Unfortunately, here in the states C. Sative is just as illegal as C. Indica. However, one can obtain a special permit for commercial C. Sativa from the state. Could be an interesting crop to break up the monotony of the wheat fields.
Sun burn, It is very suitable for the wet tropics. Naturally hemp fibres were fairly insect resistant and they can also be quite water resistant. Still many of the international trader type vessels still use hemp ropes which they source out of south asia. I have mentioned this in other posts but in the 80s the NT grews many thousands of tons of 'kenaf', a very tall and slender low THC variety of hemp. Sadly, their wasnt really a market for it so it was squashed. You may be able to apply to the QLD DPI for permission to grow kenaf. Hemp, Good post, the admins here are pretty quick to block spam links, [designer shoes, MLM's etc] but if it relates to what we do they are welcome. Actually, I believe your first couple of posts here are monitored for content. Cheers,
yes, Cannabis Sativa - you can learn how to grow in the book "Growing Hemp For Profit" in the hemp bookshop at www.hempowered.com - enjoy!
