Hello all, I am fairly new here but have had my little farm for 8 years now. 10 acres on the edge of what should become a National Park in the foreseeable future. Subtropical green picture of a place this is. I see permaculture as part of a creative, organic, self sufficient (as far as possible) life which can be shared with respect for other animals, including people and the natural (and even the 'unnatural') world. Travel and staying with others as well as having people/animals stay with me are my favourite ways to learn I also learn from cinema and other arts generally. As far as I am concerned, my farm is a big living art project. The art of life! Sometimes very challenging, scary... sometimes pure joy and all in between. I live it and love it. Live with chickens, ducks, geese, llamas, goats, a housecow and horse. I've helped citrus, stonefruit, curry, neem and carob and lots of local indigenous trees to get themselves established... Did the owner builder thing (with the help of a lovely local builder) a year ago and now base most of my activities in the home made beautiful local timber/recycled doors/windows etc shed down near my dam. Put in lovely local timber animal fencing and housing and swaled, irrigated and composted ready to get more serious about veggie growing. WWoofers have been mainly a delight and very helpful. There are now 3 'cottages' on my place and I am enjoying (as others do) sharing this farmlet with lovely and likeminded people... either those wanting to stay here for wwoofing, holidays, rest and relaxation/healing or organised events or to live. My future interests are in establishing more productive and beautiful veggie gardens, using my horse and llamas for transport, getting my housecow producing milk again and getting better at making cheese, learning to make tempe and other fermented goodies, planting more vertical fodder trees such as Tree lucerne... also building lovely relationships with others who share interest in self sufficiency, creative and fun living! I also want to write, swim, sing and dance more....
Hi and welcome. I was almost drooling when I read your post. Congrats on getting yourself such a wonderful home.
Which bit of the Coast is home Janine? I'm in Nambour. There's a number of Sunny Coasters that hang around here. Do you ever get to the Perm Noosa Meetings?
Hi there Moderator, I'm up between Tewantin and Boreen Point... Yes did go to Perm Noosa Meetings years back. Good to know you are there and others too. I might get to more meetings but by nightfall I want to be all cosy at home.
Nice! My folks are in Tewantin, which is where I grew up. Are you on the Noosa River? You should try dragging yourself out to a meeting again. Let myself and permasculptor know and we'll come and annoy you over coffee and cake at the end of the meeting! Feb 17 is the next one.
