I am happy to have found this site, after sole woman have bought an old neglected farm on the rocky island of Bornholm - a small island closer to Sweden than the rest of Denmark, with a somewhat warmer climate. We can grow figs by a southfacing wall for example, which is not common elsewhere here. I have a small flock of chicken and a cat, and aim at selfsufficiency. I have grown a lot of food during the past 3 years, being a vegetarian, but in a different rented place each year, which has been rather a struggle with the establishing of beds from scratch etc. But NOW I have my own place and its amazing Lots of wildlife in my little patch of forest, a small lake, a wetlandlike stretch, a big old formerly parklike garden, and some ruinlike buildings besides my mainhouse. I am happy to live alone, but sometimes its tough off course, with all the work this place - and my ambitions for it! - takes Left here was enormous amounts of (dry) horsemanure, semi-old hay and bedding, and also chickenmanure in amounts that are erhm, surprising... I have grown only naturally and organic, both here and elsewhere, but have no formal training in permaculture, and thats why I am here. I am planning some hugelkultur beds in my orchard, and mainly that topic is of interest right now. If you have read this far: greetings whereever and whoever you are, lets build a better future together apart <3
Hello Pernille Sue and welcome, Congratulations on acquiring your new property! You have a wonderful array of resources, including the pond/wetland and manure/bedding. Is your orchard already existing or something you're planning? Have you read Sepp Holzer's book re: hugelkultur? Looking forward to hearing more and following along on your progress.
