    Hi Guys,
I'd like to invest in a hot house to grow my seedlings. I've been using a 4 foot flouro light propped up on bricks and covering the pots with gladwrap until the seeds germinate, then in a few weeks time moving them to a cheap $60 plastic greenhouse that's about 2' x 1.5' x 5' high.

This is really impractical and is really holding me back!

I'd like to buy a decent sized hot house where I can grow enough seedlings to plant up my 1/4 - 1 acre! I have no idea on prices or where to look. What are the size, lifespan and practical differences between plastic or glass?

    I'm in Vic.

    Cheers!

Thanks Richard, I've registered however there doesn't appear to be anything listed recently in Vic. I'll keep my eyes on it. If anyone else can offer any help, that'd be great.

    Cheers

    Greenhouses

I dont know about glass as I have never used it, but if you get UV stabilised plastic then it will last many years, I have had one for almost five years and it is still going fine. The problem with polytunnels is that they have to be well built especially if you are in a windy area. I have tried making my own from poly pipe only to have them blown down. I currently have a commercially made one formed with tubular steel. It has worked very well. It is 4m wide by 4.5m long and cost about $1000. It was bought at Luddenham in western Sydney. They are standard width and come any length in 1.5m increments. In terms of strength and durability of the frame it has been worth the investment.

I just bought and assembled a hothouse with a shade cover for a customer in Albury. The house was from Adloheat in Pakenham. very well made and easy to assemble. You can find them in melbourne yellow pages under greenhouse, glasshouse or hothouse. Cant remember which.
Also Monbulk rural supplies have a great range.
Both companies cater for domestic to commercial and will have an ideal size for you.

Hi, thanks Jeff. Pakenham is actually nearby, so I will be sure to check them out.

    Cheers.
