Hi Diggman. Sorry. I tried. Not sure if it was the flat Irish drone or the dry-as-chips topic, but I wound up sticking pins in my eyes for some light relief.

Don't mean to denigrate or offend in any way though!!! I know The Banking System is f*cked, as am I, prostrate over this here barrel as they all line up and have their wicked way with me. I just cannot bare any more than a couple of minutes of economic speak. Think it's called the Dismal Science for good reason.

...more interested in your quail project. Hows that getting along? Very keen on doing the same myself here. Found any winning quail links you might share? Hope the weather over there is on the improve too.

    :)

    Hi Eugene,
No worries hey I dont get offended by those things.
I've been asking advice online about wheather quail are worth keeping and usual response despite myself saying I cant, ends up as "well why dont you keep chickens" .
So I've decided to go for it anyway, 5 quail to begin with and another 2 if they dont provide enough eggs. Will build a coop mostly out of supplies I get weekly from a construction tip at my work and will be a design I will make up based on what I have available and what tools I have.
I will post a link as soon as I have access to an actual computer later.
Cheers oh and we have loads of rain which is okay as the rainbarrel has juat been inatalled :) I used to live in the middle east so Im still diggin the rain

Yeah go for it alrighty. Nothing ventured rah rah....

The eggs are delicious, as are the quail. Can always eat the buggers if the eggs aren't issuing forth and go for the chickens later. Read somewhere you start with a quail, put that in a chicken, the chicken in a goose, you go through all the farmyard all the way up to a camel then build an oven big enough to bake it. Neighbourhood feast apparently in the middle east....

I am a ways off making my quail coop - got a list of jobs to work through first including getting the rainwater tank on it's pad...it's a good life.

    :)

I studied money in the 80's. If what the natural ecology can provide is the goal, then the only currency that ought to be issued is that directly tied to goods and services it provides. For instance, a homestead has a bushel of apples then issues a currency payable in apples. That paper can be traded around for various other similarly valued goods and services. When the currency is redeemed, it is destroyed.

    https://www.omlet.co.uk/guide/quails/

This is a slide Guide on quail by the people who run the Omlet website, there was some nice info there I found useful, do you know what else to feed Quail? Everywhere I look they suggest only ready made feed, so in terms of permaculture that is not sustainable in the event of being deep in the bush or if an economic collapse (oh oh, prepper talk haha).

One guy who farms quail said he goes down to the local supermarket and gets their expired apples, pears, oranges and bread / cakes, mushes them up together and feeds the quail, the birds apparently will reject the food firstly but then will start comping the food in a couple of days, he reckons they are nice, fat and healthy (I'm not sure about the cake though).

I did see a video o youtube a while back where this American guy had a few plants growing inside the run, each was surrounded by a small chicken mesh cage so that the plants provide some food and the birds are prevented from completely eating the whole thing, I'm going to try find the video, he didn't clearly explain the plants and whatnot but we can at least try see what it was about.

    More to come mate :)

    More:

This video is interesting with the plants inside the run, some of which are caged so perhaps the bird nips at the protruding leaves, it would be a good experiment to do especially for those who have the space: https://youtu.be/jr-kdDUP57A

An Australian gardening Youtuber grows greens under a hinged caged door so the annuals/grass establish themselves and then the birds nip off the tops.

I've linked him a few times before and I will attempt now to find the exact video for you.
