Hi folks, I'd like to start up a trading thread,
to offer plants, seeds or whatever,
to help people share resources around.

    Registered Members only.

sometimes it's difficult to source some plants/seeds species
and there are often people out there sitting
on loads of things (seeds/cuttings/plants) that others may be looking for.

    So.... here's how it works.

someone put's something up for offer...

    and if someone wants it
all they have to do is post a reply

and put something else that they have up for grabs .

    and so on.

all behind the scenes communication is then done via private messages,
so as not to overload this thread.
continuity and simplicity it important here.

    heres an example.

    'person A' posts

    "2x seedling of ..............
    50x seeds of ........"

    'Person B' replies

    "Thanks

    1xPkt of ......seed
    5x cuttings of ........
    1x .........tree in 10cm pot"

then 'B' sends Personal message to 'A' and gives postal address
    'A' sends 'B' the 'goods' .
    transaction finished.

    'B' to 'C' ; 'C' to 'D' and so on

Probably best to keep it within Australia to prevent inadvertant import/export violations
and to keep postage costs down.

It could be a nice way to connect with other folks in this community,
also spreading parts of your garden across the country.

C'mon folks, I wanna give these plants away to a good home. :-o
I dont have to , I just want to.
    Anyone ...?
For a few seeds or anything, doesn't matter, whatever you have.

someone put their hand up and take them so I can mail them Monday (tomorrow).
You can plant them Thursday :)

Q.lobata = acorns are sweet- good food for chooks, turkeys, pigs etc..
Traditionally eaten by Indiginous tribes of California.
    leaves fantastic for compost.

It's difficult to match the quality of the plants with perhaps some basil seeds and a few comfrey plants Speedy. Michael angelica has rare and indangered plants but perhaps not much room for trees.
It's tuff when you can't give great stuff away. Perhaps people are off for the weekend and will get back to you tomorow. If you get desperate and think they will make it up to the Hunter Valley then we will find a home at Purple Pear and I will look for some more appropriate stuff you may find interesting.

    PP, if you're offering
basil seeds and comfrey plants/root cuttings, thats all that's needed.

I send you the plants listed, then you offer the basil seeds and comfrey for someone else to take if they want them.
thats how this works , it's a 'pay it forward' kinda thing
I dont expect anything for the plants myself, but just that in return for the things you get, you offer something to everyone else and then post it to whoever accepts it.
monetry value is irrelevent. it could be a single bean seed. it doesn't matter, but just that the thread keeps going.
Maybe it'll take a while before people catch onto how it works.
    :)

I'll grow them and give them to local permaculture members (After planting one or two on council land?)

While we are at it, I am trying to give away a front door that I saved from a council rubbish truck. It is in tolerable condition with colored glass panels. I have been trying to work out a use for it for months but I think the neighbors are beginning to wonder about my growing trash heap, and i should give it away.

    Hi Michaelangelica,
The plants I offered where accepted by, and have been sent to, Purplepear.
In return he has paid it forward by offering
'basil seeds, carrot seeds, tatsoi seeds and
any number of comfrey root cuttings Ask about other locally collected seeds as well '

to anyone else who wants them.
When someone accepts, purple pear mails the goods on offer to the person.
The person just has to pay it forward by offering up something else that they have to the serial trading thread (something easily posted through the mail) for anyone else to accept...
    and so on... :)

I would love to grow some!! Do you think they will survive in a sub-tropical climate? I have a nice protected spot next to the dam under the canopy of a large ice cream bean tree...

I can offer Foxtail Palm seeds and a few Illawarra Flame Tree seeds.

It's a shame this never got up and running, people need to read the first post again.

I've used this sort of thing on other forums, and it is a great way to share seeds, cuttings, etc.

The thread its self is not for discussion, that is all done by PM.

The only thing that should be written in here is a "Thanks" to the offer you accept, and then post what you have on offer.

anything else just confuses the matter.

The great thing about this is that everything is offered free!

When you accept an offer from a forum user, they post it to you free of charge, then when someone accepts your offer, you post it out to them, free of charge, and so on.

Seeds and cuttings get shared round, and all you have to do is pay postage...:handshake:

Now i dont have anything to offer, cause i'm a newbie, but someone with an excess of something should kick this off, would be a great addition to the forums.

Probably best to keep it legal champion!

Also mods, does anyone want to actually moderate this? If not i'd be happy to. Would be an honour to facilitate the sharing, after all, isn't that a permaculture principle or something?

Like i said before, conversation seems to just confuse these threads, if you need to talk directly to someone, do it via PM.

P.s obviously feel free to delete this post, and all other posts that do not contain a new offer.

    Seeds, glorious seeds

Hi, I'm Seymour. I live in Northern Brisbane on the coast.
I'm new and have yet to post in the welcome forum and the pictures of my setup one year in.

I have some seeds to swap.

    ok

Bok Choi - I have a lot of these as they are a prolific seed producer

    Coffee Tree Arabica 4 seeds

Tropical Guava (psidium Guajava) 4 seeds

Sweet Marjoram (marjorama hortensis) -The seeds are tiny they are hard to count.

Thai Basil - I have a tonne of this and can send the seeds on the stalks

Sweet Basil - same situation as the Thai basil

Italian Parsley - seeds are tiny, I'm sure that there are 10-15 in a pinch

Stevia (natural zero calorie sweetner from South America) - 5 seeds

Cayenne Chilli (the long variety) - 10 seeds

Also you can get free mulch from the council refuse stations in SE QLD.

If anyone knows of a source of budget sleepers in SE QLD that would be great. I need to build more raised beds.

Let me know if you would like and of the seeds. I will post them ASAP.
