Hi all, I know it may sound like a silly question, but is it ok to feed my isa browns rice? It's healthy long grain brown rice! Should i soak it first? Or is it fine to give to them raw? I have a 25kg bag of brown rice which has been sitting in the cellar for 7 years!! I'm not game enough to eat it myself, but thought i would feed it to the girls instead. Please tell me if i'm going to do them damage! Cheers Lyn
We cook rice and feed it to our little chooks. It's usually our left over rice. They love it. I wouldn't feed uncooked rice to chooks or anyone else for that matter. It expands in the stomach and can kill.
Chooks will eat just about anything that's animal or vegetable. I used to throw any mice from my traps into the chook dome. I agree that rice expands when wet, but wouldn't any grain do that? And chooks sure can handle eating grain. I just haven't tried 'em on rice! :?
Chooks as we know them originated in the same region that rice did. No harm at all feeding chooks on rice although they may take a few days to get used to it. floot
