Does anyone know what is best Rock-wool or pink-bats?
I was told Rockwool is better for sound insulation. I used it in the walls of a house I built.

What size/rating should/can you go for?
    What is the maximum rating?

NB YOU CANNOT GET THE GRANT IF YOU DIY .
It is a pitty they didn't include underfloor insulation too for cold areas, but hey lets not look a gifthorse in the mouth
This should make a considerable difference in Australia's GHG emissions

If you are in Victoria, don't meet the criteria of the federal grant, you can get free insulation if you have at least 5 people living in the house and hold a healthcare card. It is through the 'homewise grants program', no outlay as the installer just bills the govt.

Pink Batts are made of very fine fibres that are circulated in the air of the house (they get through the ceiling somehow) and are breathed in and cause a lot of problems in the lungs, very dangerous - I'd use wool or spray in paper pulp.
