    This weekend or next weekend:

27 April 2014 Farm Walk – Pigs in the Garden

    This weekend is the 19th.

I understand it's the last Sunday, but it's very confusing.

I went to this walk and took some photos. Wasn't really "amongst it" this time so I can't provide you with much info (or finer details) but feel free to ask. Use the link in the first post for a bit more info. Another member of these forums was present and he may volunteer more information if he wants.

First, we started with the introduction from Elaine (Mary Valley Country Harvest) to Phil and Julian (Tamworth Flyers):

Phil and Julian live in separate abodes amongst the beginnings of gardens, orchards and established forestry lots:

Phil ran us through his propagation stock for the piggies in their fodder paddocks. Cassava, Cocoyam, QLD Arrowroot, Taro, Sugar Cane, Banana featuring heavily:

They also save food from going to landfill:

Time to visit the juvenile piggies (4 months) inside one of their paddocks:

Phil and Julian's end goal is to grow a lot of the food for the pigs inside the paddocks on a rotational system. They haven't been managing the pigs very long and it's all experimentation at this point:

    Tubers on contour:

    Taro in the wet corner:

    Some of the older stock:

And what is left of the moist corner of the paddock, ready for replanting when the pigs leave:

    The End.

    SOP
thanks for driving all the way to attend, and posting those great photos.
I wasn't able to be there, but hopefully someone who was will put together a brief summary that we can put up on the MaryValleyCountryHarvest.com website.
The next Sunday arvo walk will be on the 25th May, meeting at Dagun railway station to go and look at some 20-25 yr old landslip stabilization and creek restoration projects, and gather up some ideas for how to tackle another unstable landslip area nearby. I'll put up the details on this forum once they are finalized.

Thanks for posting those gorgeous photos SOP.

I really enjoyed the day so thanks to the organisers and Phil and Julian for sharing their experiences and time. Considering we are just coming out of such a long drought the place was really interesting. The pigs and the management system look really promising- I'm trying to figure out if I have enough flat land to try some in a few years time. Better start planting arrowroot at warp speed!

You're only saying they're gorgeous because you feature in them.

    I KNEW IT!
