This is the first year with no till garden.Unfortunately I didn't have to much straw for mulching all the surface with a generous layer ,so I spread worm casting over the seed rows and this is how it looks at this moment .Certainly next year will have a better compost layer and so on for the coming years. free adult image hosting
if you can find cardboard for free it makes a decent mulch when used a few layers thick. the worms will chew it up eventually so you don't even have to shred it or do anything other than poke holes where you want to plant through it and weigh it down so it doesn't get blown by the wind. oh and i've also used newspaper too for the same purpose...
Yes songbird I am already a ''paper collector'' ,neighbors know better this LOL The photo is made from somewhere at middle of the garden ,for all this surface I need a huuuuge amount of cardboard but all my collected paper ,eg boxes and all kind of cardboard gone in the keyhole garden and the worm bin.I am planing two more keyhole gardens this year. Here is my first keyhole garden with some radish planted these days.Is not a fancy design but for me is ok View attachment 2479
Now here is my attempt to make a pond.I was conditioned to this shape because of the trees. View attachment 2481 And here I would like to know your opinions about pond sealing, but without any kind of poly sheet because it's not affordable for me.

Great work aldreds ! My goal is to make from 7 to 10 keyhole gardens, small space lot of vegetables. These days I'm thinking at the winter time poly cover how to make it. If the compost from the middle is generating more or less heat it worth to try. I did wrote this idea ,in Email,to Dr Deb Tollman and she confirm that certainly will be a pattern of heating and cooling depending by the compost. Maybe a bigger diameter compost basket ...I don't know will see.
