Environmental Health Officers work around the world in all levels of government and share a common objective with permaculture of creating more productive and sustainable environments for people to live in. Our meetings used to only happen behind closed doors but the increasing complexity and scale of environmental and public health problems means we are now going to have to draw on wider public support and collaboration to achieve our objectives. This group will openly discuss complex legal, technical and financial issues associated with various forms of onsite wastewater management systems in unsewered areas, start up threads to draft educational materials, research ideas and learn from one anothers experiences as well as feedback from around the world. Composting toilets have been around for decades but wormfarm systems and new ozone based systems capable of running off solar cells are now in existance. As the experience with Biolytix shows, new technologies and approaches need to be considered with care but at the same time a world facing limited energy, materials and resources can not afford to not make rapid improvements. This is the first group of EHO's to use this site and others may follow in specialist fields of food safety, emergency management, public health and wellbeing, etc. Please identify your self in discussions with the letters EHO after your name if you are one but by all means everyone else should also feel free to comment. If you want to ask questions of EHO's then this is probably a good thread and we will try and list other environmental health threads and websites that might be of interest on this thread.
