A small company in a rural village in Western Australia bravely aims to float an ethical investment company on the Australian Stock exchange within the next few weeks.

Greenedge Ethical Investments (https://www.greenedgeethical.com.au) intends to raise a minimum of A$8 million by November 14th 2008 and will invest in ecovillages and other sustainable developments such as the SomerVille Ecovillage (https://www.somervilleecovillage.com.au).

The intention is to remove one of the main barriers (access to intelligent finance) for community based ecovillages and other sustainable developments. What I mean by "intelligent finance" is financial institutions that understand ecovillages and other sustainable developments compared to standard banking institutions that incorrectly see ecovillages as high risk and charge a premium or don't lend at all.

At this stage, you will need to be an Australian resident to be able to invest. Shares are available in a minimum of $2000 parcels. The shares are $1 each and have a free attaching option for every share that is purchased. This means that investors have an option any time in the next three years to buy shares at $1 even if the price is $3, for example. The options themselves can also be sold on the Australian Stock Exchange.

If you are not in a position to invest at the moment, you can still spread the word to friends, family and colleagues. You can do this by using the "Spread the Word!" page on the website: https://www.greenedgeethical.com.au
