On Tuesday I will be posting off my 3rd order. No problems with the first two, all arrived in Adelaide in good condition to different people.

I am on fire, 5 lots now posted Adelaide x 2 Mebourne x 2 and Sunshine Coast Qld x 1. Doing alright for a hobby worm farmer who recently entered the World of Posting Worms :y:

 

Just an update. I am no longer at the Sharks Farmers Markets on a Saturday morning. It was costing me more money to be there than I was taking in sales some weeks and I would just break even other weeks. It wasn't the worms that was the problem but nobody was buying much from any of the stall holders. Even the fruit and veggie people were finding it tough..

Maybe in a few weeks I might try again. Funny thing is I have had several calls asking if I was going there.

 

Thank you to those members who have ordered worms. I really appreciate it. For those who are considering I now have added Paypal to my website and updated and added more content. As I get smarter I will pass it on to help others.

I am hoping too spend more time here now I have sort of finished my website. It is work in progress but I am happy with it at the moment.

With the profit, "What is that?" I keep my prices as low as I can so I hope to move more stock. If I charge more I sell less so I will see how it goes.
Over the Christmas Break I did some research and I now have changed my production strategies. It is hugely labour intensive but no pain no gain. I am seeing a huge increase in my stock levels already. Hmmm Profit is sounding good after the amount of work I do when I get home from work.

I am looking at building a mechanical harvester which will save me many hours of hand sieving the worm beds. Kills your back too, so what I do in say 8 hours I would be able to do it in about 1 hour. I have put a link below so you can see what I mean. Hopefullly it will work

Thanks to this Thread and this Forum I got a call from a chap who is one of the largest suppliers of worms in Australia. I knew exactly who he was soon as he said his name. Took him a bit by surprise I think. Anyway he was looking for fresh stocks of African Night Crawlers. Our chat was very productive for me because he gave me tips on how to do better and combined with the other things I found out I should be well placed to cover any orders that come in. Sadly I couldn't meet his request just yet but I am working on it. He will take all the Fishing size Africans I can produce so there is incentive to do better and do well.

Thank you. I just found the thread "I want to build a Worm Farm" and couldn't help myself. All the secrets are out there now. I have learn't from other websites and this one, so I am happy to pass on any knowledge I can. Worm farming is very easy to do.

 

That's very cool that Mr Big in the worm world wants to do business with you.

 

It makes sense if he can sub contract if you like some of the breeding. All he has to do it pack them in small tubs of about 20 worms and sell them for $4 each with a minimum of 24 tubs to bait shops. It is very labour intensive so if I can make a few $$ and so can he all is good.

Just have to grow them out as soon as possible. Ok it is time to return to the sieve lol.

 

Things are looking up with an email from him today. Even more useful information. It is good to see that a big player in the game is prepared to share his knowledge with a small time back yard player. It really helps to keep the passion for it alive.

 

10 worms in a styrofoam tin with cover here, during salmon or striper season is $4US at minimum!! Think about that insane markup!!

The fishing worms come at a price because the difficulty in breeding them and trying to prevent them from escaping their beds. They can be problematic, need great care and are time consuming to say the least
I will master them even if I get old doing it.

 

Help....my worms are trying to escape....why is that? They seem to be swarming all over the place.....help!!!!!!!

 

Chris, is any of the food in the bin moldy? That can cause them to jump ship. Can you give us some more information?

 

No, as far as I know there isn't any mould. I'm actually trying to separate them from the castings and I've removed the lowest bin to do that, using the light method to remove the castings....have transferred the 2nd bin to the bottom, and that's the bin that the worms are going mad in. I can't work it out as they were fine only this morning. I put some cow manure in to give them a treat. That's all
