Would appreciate some advice from experienced chook keepers - We got our 3 point of lay Isa browns last July. Two are going well, laying regularly, all good but the third just can't seem to get her act together. She lays for a few days, stops for a few days, then she'll drop a couple of unshelled eggs on the ground anywhere. Her eggs can be anything from normal to enormous and often the shells are uneven and bumpy. She is not at all distressed, eats normally and runs around with her sisters. She did go through a broody patch a couple of months ago but got over it with cool baths and being banned from the maternity ward. Her comb is smaller than those of her sisters. They have a big run, plenty of good laying mix, shell grit, water and household scraps - all they could want (except for some male company)! Will she get over it and eventually settle down or should I do anything active about it? Would appreciate any advice thanks Spicegirlsmum
Hi, I have had chooks off and on over the years but dont consider myself an expert by any means. Ihavent had point of lays they have always been ex battery end of lays, but every now and then I would get one that would not lay as well as the others. In fact I have one right now doing the same thing.Last to start laying and then jelly eggs etc.... I have been checking to make sure she Is getting her fair share of food and water and still not sure if she is as she is lighter in weight than the others. I am starting to think that if she doesnt start laying properly it might be better to replace her, but I'm a softy so I'm not sure I can do that just yet. I'm going to give her another 6 weeks grace.
