    Hey there folks,

The quake that hit Chile on Feb 27 sent ripples of reality around the world. Dependence on centralized utilities and transportation systems are a recipe for disaster.

Conception and surrounding areas are struggling, many still do not have potable water or electricity. 125,000 people have lost their jobs and thousands more are homeless.

While the rest of the country has public services, the blackout across the country last week prompted a government call for energy conservation. There would be more blackouts due to susceptability of the one remaining power station.

The permaculture tribe in Chile has hit the ground running and is busy re-building permaculture style. Ecoescuela El Manzano has spearheaded the on ground construction efforts. They are making advances but they need your help. Spanish language information is idea but any info will help.

    - Make a donation, we can do a lot with a little. Be sure to list "Donation Chile" in the proper field.

    - Good information for do it yourself water filters? Design details and budgets?

    - Biofilters designs and details....we need materials lists.

    - Emotional resilience, if you have references?

    - Design for disaster...anything about new thinking in disaster preparation. We need quality information on design of whole communities in disaster situations...case studies.

    - Design details and budgets for solar hot water heaters.

    - PV systems for lighting

    - Design of the pumps from gavitas in Columbia.

    - Design details and materials lists for non-emergency housing, local materials, bio, owner build, preferably round pole post and beam with light clay straw, light roof....we are getting a lot of info but little specific details.

400 Kilometers south of Conception, Valdivia, Chile was less directly affected by the quake. However, we are gearing up an effort to train the community in permaculture design. This city has had two of the largest earthquakes recorded in history. The last big one in 1960 was 9.5 on the Ricther scale and lasted 11 minutes! Our permaculture hostel is in the process of transitioning into an urban permaculture demonstration site. www.airesbuenos.cl Come on down!!
