A pic of some fruit I found on a dog walk - - - it's supposed to be bush tucker but after Sandie and I tasted it I'd think twice - - Sandies description of the taste: sour off avacado taste, maybe a little bit pooey - got the texture of avacado

Does anyone have any legitimate uses for the fruit?

Blue quandong can be a majestic tree when it gets up - a very tall buttressed rainforest tree which likes growing near streams. Also good for forest regeneration because it's fast enough to be a pioneer, but goes up and up to become a canopy tree in an established forest. The timber is or was popular as a cabinet timber.

On the food side, Tim Low in his 'Wild Food Plants' says 'Aborigines once gathered the fallen fruits, sometimes kneading them with water into an edible paste. They are sour, insipid, and not very nutritious. They contain no thiamine and only traces of vitamin C.'

So forget about eating them, but they are a beautiful tree for the regen patch if you have one. They also encourage a range of native pigeons.

    Hope that helps.

thanks Peter - excellent info - - - there'll be problems where that tree is if it's allowed to get as big as it can -- surprising it's growing here - and right beside the beach (and a resort)
