Hello, at one of Geoff's PDC's he mentioned something by the name of "pinto pina," which is an alternative to grass. I can't seem to find anything about it online so I have a feeling I got the name wrong. Does anyone know what I'm on about?
Thank you @permasculptor! From a quick search, it seems this is a tropical species and would not do very well in this desert climate.
This seems to be a very thorough overview of the pinto peanut: https://pintoyseeds.com/about/ note the maps in the "Planting and Care" section The mixed message seems to be "drought tolerant" AND keep the soil moist (maybe with much mulch?). I've found this site helpful in the past for arid/semi-arid plants: https://www.aridgardening.com/category/ground-cover/
