I got given an air potato yesterday. I did some research and apparently its a run away weed in Florida. It can climb and kill large trees. Apparently extremely fertile and productive. Has anyone grown any? Does it taste good ? Is it worth the effort? or Should I burn it with fire and walk away from the demon spawn/or eat it? any advice would be appreciated its sitting on my kitchen bench top awaiting its fate Does it make good pig food and can it be controlled on a larger property?
According too https://plants.ifas.ufl.edu/node/133 it is a problem plant. I wouldn't plant one in the yard. I guess it would be a good ornamental. Pic of same found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dioscorea_bulbifera
Oh snap. Yeah I'm familiar with these. The pics look a little different than the plant in real time. We know them in Louisiana as "Monkey Ball Vines". They grow like mad around here. Pretty vine as well. They do produce a lot of seed balls, but you keep your yard up then no problem. The seeds are easy to spot so just p/u what you don't want to grow. Most the people I know around here with them let them grow up the front porch columns. Good for ornamental.
LOL someone gave me one on Sunday. I think that makes it the same day we were given one. I didn't know it was a pest. M said its not the greatest tasting vegeteable but if you are worried about food shortages and crises down the track, you might be glad of it. If not, don't worry about it. But as she said, its quie a pretty vine. Maybe it would be easier to control if it weren't grown on a tree but on a fence or trellis.
