For different reasons, I sometimes like me a good ghost town or abandoned place, including even online virtual places, like forums or blogs, where, for example, the last entry might be something like March 12, 2006. And maybe they made, like, a total of 9 entries over 2 years. Or abandoned software or an interesting-thing-with-a-story, kicked to the curb. Or Pripyat. That kind of thing. The experience can be wonderfully reflective, melancholic and desolate. (It's looking like it's getting there here by the way, if it was any different, and makes me wonder what of permaculture and similar.) ...Or even people walking around in nature, yet looking intently at their cellphones. Or that famous (infamous?) Wuhan 'Bat Lady' in her virus-research bubble hazmat-like suit, like an astronaut. I can almost imagine her floating around in space like that guy HAL9000 decided to dispense with. Or like William Shatner or Elon Musk's car-in-space... or even people driving in their cars right here at home for that matter... Or even our professions and governments...

What project was it and are there extra details online? Made me wonder about 'greening the desert' starting along the fringes/edges/contours of 'the green' (not [necessarily?] the irrigated ones along a river) rather than closer to the middle of nowhere.
Rum Organic(s) search on youtube and you may find some older Geoff Lawton videoes showing parts of the design and a few follow ups. Wadi Rum, Wadi Rum Organic(s) may also be interesting searches, I just did one using the terms: geoff lawton wadi rum organic and things do come up to investigate further. the problem is, if you look around the neighborhood you see a large design that was also put in and I'm not sure if some of the videos are that site or this one. It's not clear. it's too bad that Geoff doesn't comment here any longer or we could ask him. ok, one thing mentions 10 acre site and that fits the measurements I just made, but there is a much larger site to the SW which is a designed space. I'm curious how that has been managed and if that is a permaculture inspired design.
Oh is it 2023 there already? Not much time has elapsed here at all. I was snoozing on my way to the Alpha Centauri system. I'm automatically alerted by any received messages, but of course my relativistic speed and distance from Earth makes for serious delays from a terrestrial standpoint. Will I be returning you might ask? Probably not. There are far too many Earth-like planets out here to bother. So what if the gravities, oceans or atmospheres are a little more crushing or toxic. We have technology. Besides, when I return, many decades or even centuries will have elapsed. Anyone I knew will be long gone. Anyway, I hope they've set you up well at Mission Control (MC), like with a good chair, drink, treats and a good paper for your markers, so that you're comfy and your messages flow well. On the map, I noticed that your abandoned project seems to be in what may have been a formerly-watery or at least periodically-watery 'connection' between two bodies of water and in or near Israel. So I guess it's not overly in the middle of nowhere. Maybe it'll rain someday. I'll check out your Rum Organics, etc. and maybe get back to you much sooner, since MC has been experimenting with a new form of communication based on quantum entanglement. Project started 2011, project closed 2015. Artesian spring tapped = 1,200L mineral water/day, 9,000 native trees planted, WET System installed, access track installed, polytunnel, Earthshelter and veg garden. Thanks for the elaboration, Marcus. The pix look very nice. What's your opinion on this? Four years wasted? Disagree with the council's reasons? If people went back in, could it easily be resurrected? Like is it in a kind of suspended animation? (Is the water still tapped?)
9000 native trees were a threat to local biodiversity? or was it the artesian well being tapped that triggered the reaction? surely they could have worked on a compromise of some kind? so it seems that there was some other issues going on besides...
