I have a Bosch front loader washing machine. It is great but the one thing wrong with it is the large and wide door seal. The seal has a gutter in it which doesn't drain. So water sits in it all the time and the seal in general seems to stay wet even with the door left open. We now have disgusting thick black mould covering the bottom half of the seal almost completely. I cannot get rid of it. I have tried a few things including Borax paste, Eucalyptus oil, vinegar. I haven't tried a strong bleach as I don't like putting it down the septic. Might have to resort to White King yet though =( What else can I try?
Hi Mouse Oil of cloves diluted in water in a spray bottle. Spray it on and just wipe it off. When I got flooded I ended up with bloody mould everywhere. Oil of cloves takes it straight off. Thanks to Shannon Lush of ABC fame.
Yes find it in the chemist. I use it in the bathroom too to get rid of mould in the grout. Shannon says to use 2 drops per 1 litre of water but I used a bit more. I also have a bosch dishwasher and clean it with this mixture and around the fridge. Smells nice and it kills the mould spores. In the toilet, as I have septic too, I use a bicarb and vinegar solution that doesn't interfere with the beneficial critters.
I had the same issue. Fixed it for the most part by using vinegar as the fabric softener every wash. There's only a little bit at the bottom left now. Might try the clove oil trick!
Is the seal removable? Your options increase if you can soak the seal in something. Bad design on Bosch's part though.
Some feedback: Oil of Cloves made no impression on it at all. Then I tried the Metho thing and that didn't remove one jot of it either. I have to say I am not surprised. This stuff is nasty. If I lived in the States and word got out, some guys would turn up and charge me thousands to decontaminate my house in nuclear fall out suits. The seal is not removable. Worst design ever. I am going to try coating it in cooking oil and leave it coated for 24 hours and hope that starved of oxygen it might expire and then just come off. However I suspect that long after humans are gone from this planet, this mould will still be here!!
Oh no! I'm really surprised it didn't work. It gets rid of mine. It's sounds like the beast. eeeeeekkkkkk!
have you tried vinegar? It suggests bleach but says "If you are unable to use bleach, vinegar can be used in its place." https://www.howtocleanstuff.net/how-to-remove-mold-from-rubber-seals/
Yep, tried vinegar by the litre. The military could use this for something I am sure of it........or maybe NASA.
: Most essential oils are anti-fungal (What plants use them for) RU using full strength essential oils and not perfume oils? What is the seal made of? the cooking oil may feed it
The clove oil and the eucalyptus oil are both 100% pure. I just did some googling and it is a very common problem with front loaders it seems. I am going to have to resort to bleach I'm afraid. Then I am going to have to manually soak the water up and wipe the darn rubber thing out every day. Then I am going to hope that the machine dies so that I can justify getting rid of it and going back to a top loader!
G'day MITH A search using the term 'mould bosch' on this website returned 225 hits! It would seem that it is a common problem. Some of the 'reviewers' suggested various 'treatments', but mostly they involved lots of bleach. Cheerio, Markos
