    Hi Everyone,

This plant is about 70cm high and we are just wondering if anyone knows what it is? It has grown really fast.

What do the leaves taste/smell like?
    How tall is it?
Stem is odd, looks very sturdy, what shape is it (square, round, many sided )?
    How tall is the plant?

It is a dicot, so that narrows it down to about 50 plant families.
    Looks a little cabbage family-ish

My first impression is that it's a brassica of some sort. Never seen anything quite like it though.
What do the leaves taste like? You might have found a new wonder plant!

Brassica sounds right to me, too. Might be a mustard, but check the root where it's coming out of the soil. Is it wide and white or reddish? Might also be a raddish or a turnip. The beneficial insects will love those flowers.

I have a bitter kale from Italy which looks suspiciously similar, my bet's on a brassica as well. Kale, collards, maybe one of those brassica weeds we get up here.

    (hmm I thought I replied yesterday.. )
I have not ventured as far as a taste :) Apparently its a wild mustard. It has little hairs on leaves. The stem has purple mixed in with the green. The midrib on some of the leaves is purple also (I had not noticed that before).

Go on - give it a nibble. You'll spend the rest of your life wondering what it was like otherwise!

I had one of those exact same plants pop up. Having a healthy suspicion of random brassica's (I'm in an area where there is a lot of canola cropping). I pulled it and popped it in the compost.

    Opportunity lost?

It might be a new super brassica that you could soak in a bucket and spray on other brassicas to keep the cabbage moth off. It could have been a gift horse!

Brassica for sure. My guess would be a wild mustard of one sort or another.
