    Prevention of swine influenza.
Everyone already knows that this epidemic is worldwide ..
in our town (population 12,500 people) have recently identified more than 50 people became infected with influenza A (H1N1).
Tell me please, what steps can be taken for prevention. . how to protect yourself and your family? Has anyone encountered this problem?

    G'day
Swine flu went through my son's school last term, most reported that it was no worse than ordinary flu.
There will be an increase in cases when northern hemisphere visitors come here for our summer.
I am in one of the 'risk' categories so had a jab as I do flu flu every year.
I think it is a subject that the media world wide just love for some reason, but seems to have underwhelmed the populace.
Boosting your immune system with large daily dose of fish oil will help resistance to many ills.
    cheers

Wash your hands, and avoid large crowds unless you really need to be there.

yes hygiene, wash your hands when out shopping especially before eating any food, keep hands away from face area. we carry one of those disinfectant washes in a little bottle and wash when we come out of the shopping centre and back in our car, and also especially after visiting the doctor/hospital our doctor has a bottle of wash on the counter i use it before leaving. and after all that we wash our hands again as soon as we are back home.

also heard vitamin D3 is supposed to help, but help the immune system add vit' C into you daily routine we buy powder form about 1/2 teaspoon should do sometime a level teaspoon full of powder into water. did hear where on so called expert said that masks don't work as they don't filter fine enough microns or whatever??

also reports seem to indicate that many only get sick as they do with flu and that those who have not survived had other medical issues which compunded the situation.

you don't say where you are from?

Re: Bad news on swine influenza A (H1N1). Help to survive!

    Hi everyone,

All of the above is a good idea. Building up your immune system is the best defense against any virus or bacteria.
Something like yoga or meditation (swimming or gardening) which lowers your stress levels and allows you to
relax is also really important for your immune system.

    But -
How do we know that swine flu is actually really dangerous?
Does anyone know or know of anyone who has gotten really sick from it?
Does the benefit of the vaccination outweigh the danger of being injected with formaldahyde and other chemicals?

I believe we should find out as much information as possible instead of just blindly accepting the fact that we "need" more vaccinations. Only then can we make a truly educated decision for ourselves and our children.
Contact the Australian Vaccination Information Register in Sydney to find out exactly what goes into this vaccine and what effect these chemicals may have on the immune system in 20 or 30 years from now.

    Be healthy
    Susie

    with you susie,

ther is a lot of fear hype being peddled out there, adn the only "facts" we have are those generted for and by those supposedly i the know, can you imagine the profit and increase in share values for chem' co's out of a mass immunisation prgram the side effects of which are not aired. and with no guarantees as i understand it.

I'm more worried about the vaccine, will I be required to take it if I come to Australia in Jan?

what about if I wanted to bring my herbs and supplements with me? I heard the customs are really strict.

wasn't aware that formaldehyde is part of the formulation - if it is, it's probably at what has been determined to be a safe level.

one side effect of not-vaccinating: death
one side effect of vaccinating: not death

yes, the benefits outweigh the risks.

you won't be obliged to take steps to stop the spread of infection

but it is highly likely that customs will want to inspect your herbs (and possibly your supplements) - you're right, they're strict, but they're pretty good about it. the key is to declare your items, if you don't declare then you'll be in deep material and you'll find out how strict they really are.

    Hello Dalzieldrin,

Thank you for this information, I've never been to Australia, would you help me with links? It would save me time on my hectic schedule, I've got too many things to do now (130 tabs open in firefox).

    Best regards,
    sam

    g'day sam,

regular supplemental stuff that is manufatured in whatever form should be ok(so long as it appears to be for personal use ie.,. not bulk amounts that may look like you are going to sell it. just might be safe to ask them about any dried herbs, they have a web site that should help you get answers, whatever though declare it on the form you have to fill in when you arrive, even if you are not sure.

    hey sam,

my opinion don't think you need to go the vaccination way for s/f, lots of hand hygene looks like being the best barrier, ie.,. wash you hands on the flight before eating, keep hands away from nose face/area. get stuck into some vit' C, realy boost it for the weeks pre-flight and after especially in that jet lag period where the body is at a low ebb, and also vit' D, and maybe a good multi' to pick the system up, and maybe throw some vit B you ned to take that about every 4 hours as like vit C it gets wee'd out of the sytem. carry a bottle of that hygenic wash at all times.
